NOM is published regarding occupational health and safety conditions for agricultural activities
On January 25, 2024, NOM-003-STPS-2023 agricultural activities, occupational health and safety conditions (the NOM) was published in the Federal Official Gazette (DOF).
The NOM was approved through the National Advisory Committee for Standardization of Safety and Health at Work in 2017 and was ratified in 2023.
The purpose of the NOM is to establish health and safety conditions to prevent the risks to which workers who carry out agricultural activities are exposed.
The NOM shall govern throughout the national territory and applies to work centers where agricultural activities are carried out, which include everything from land preparation to harvesting, storage, transportation, and packaging of agricultural products, as well as the management of agrochemicals, and the use and maintenance of machinery, vehicles, tractors, tools and agricultural equipment.
The NOM shall come into force the year following its publication in the DOF. While this happens, employers will continue to comply with NOM-003-STPS-1999, currently in force.
It is important that the work centers to which the NOM applies are pending to its entry into force, since once the year mentioned for this to happen has passed, sanctions could be imposed for non-compliance.
