On November 29, 2023, the Resolution by which articles 251 of the Social Security Law (LSS) and 146 of the Federal Labor Law (LFT) are amended, and article 59 Bis of the Law of the Institute of the National Housing Fund for Workers (INFONAVIT) is added (the Resolution), was published in the Federal Official Gazette.

The amendment to the LSS and the LFT establishes that workers who have voluntarily registered for the mandatory LSS regime, within the calculation of the employer worker quota, shall carry out the calculation corresponding to housing contributions and said workers shall be able to make contributions to INFONAVIT that allows them to obtain cheap credit according to this Institute.

On the other hand, the addition to the INFOVAVIT Law establishes that workers registered in the voluntary regime of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) may make contributions for payment to the housing sub-account of the individual account in the Saving for Retirement Systems.

The Resolution came into force on January 1, 2024. With this Resolution it could be attractive for those who are not registered in the IMSS to register voluntarily, since with this they could access a housing loan.
