On April 25, 2023, the Decree reforming section II of article 210 of the Social Security Law on nutritional support in the gestation period and neonatal period (the Amendment), was published in the Federal Official Gazette (DOF).

The Amendment establishes that hygiene, maternal and child, health and first aid education shall be provided, as well as nutrition support, both for female workers entitled to the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) pregnant during pregnancy, and for their children in the neonatal period.

Likewise, the IMSS shall have a period of 180 days, from the day following the publication of the Amendment in the DOF, to prepare a plan in which are established the guidelines, regulations, deadlines and forms with which this right of working mothers entitled to the IMSS and their children shall be administered.
