A few weeks ago, through bulletin No. 125/2022, the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) published the Pilot Program for Independent Workers, better known as Modality 10. With this mechanism for incorporation into the IMSS, the personnel who work for their account and that are not affiliated in any social security institution, will be entitled to insurances for health and maternity; work, disability and life risks; retirement, unemployment in advanced age and old age; and nurseries and social benefits.

Therefore, the IMSS makes Modality 10 available to entrepreneurs or those who work on their own, to whom it provides an insurance scheme similar to that granted to employees who work for an employer.

The payment of the monthly fee for Modality 10 is calculated based on the income registered in the IMSS. Payments shall be made no later than the 20th of each month, to start the insurance on the first day of the following month.

The registration and payment procedure is very simple, it can be done through the IMSS website, or in person by going to any of the IMSS sub-delegations. The requirements are as follows:

– Provide your Social Security Number and CURP;

– Report your monthly income and occupation; and

– Accept the terms and conditions.

With the above, the IMSS’ system generates the registration receipt and the corresponding capture line for payment.

Modality 10 could be an attractive scheme for those who work on their own, as well as for those who start their working life and do not like to be tied to an employer.
