The Workplace Health and Safety Self-Management Program (PASST) is a program established by the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS). The PASST invites companies to promote a culture of safety and health at work, establishing and operating management systems in this matter based on national and international standards. The foregoing, with the aim of favoring the operation of safe and hygienic work centers.

The PASST promotes self-assessment schemes related to compliance with regulations, with the joint responsibility of employers and employees, promoting continuous improvement in the prevention and reduction of occupational accidents and illnesses.

Companies that voluntarily join PASST will not be subject to federal labor inspections, in addition to obtaining a safe company certificate.

Work centers that already operate with Occupational Health and Safety Administration Systems integrated into their global management will also be able to enter the PASST. In these cases, the initial evaluation may be substituted for the comprehensive one, as long as the work centers have been in their own program for at least six months.

The participation of the work centers in the PASST is worthwhile since it is voluntary, for prevention purposes, without pressure from the authority and the expenses that may be required, are programmed. Opposite to the above, once a work center is subject to an audit by the authority, corrective actions must be carried out, under pressure and sometimes these imply higher costs than those derived from preventive actions.

It is worth mentioning that, in the Federal Regulations on Health and Safety at Work, amended on November 13, 2014, fines ranging from 100 to 5000 Units of Measurement and Update are established for non-compliance with the various provisions of the same.

It is also important to note that, with the Labor Reform, the STPS is giving greater impetus to labor issues that for many years were asleep and without being attended by the former heads of the STPS.
