Economic impacts of the UMA on labor matters
As of February 1, 2025, sanctions for non-compliance with labor regulations will increase, because of, as every year, the increase in the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA) comes into effect. It should be noted that the increase for 2025 was 4.21%, a percentage by which inflation increased, which, of course, is much lower than the impact of minimum wages, which on this occasion was 12%.
As a result of the increase in the UMA, in 2025 the sanctions for a breach to the Federal Labor Law will have an increase ranging from $5,657.00 pesos, in the lowest amount, to $565,700.00 pesos in its highest amount.
It should be mentioned that the creation of the UMA, in some cases, could be a benefit and, in other cases, a disadvantage. For example, if we think about the payment of employer-employee contributions or sanctions for breaches of labor law, the increase in the UMA represents a benefit. On the other hand, if we are talking about the payment of pensions in general, the increase in the UMA represents a disadvantage, and if this continues, the pension payment will be less and less in relation to the increases that are granted to minimum wages, since the gap between the UMA and the Minimum Wage will become wider every year.
Below is a comparative table of the daily, monthly and annual amount of the UMA for the years 2024 and 2025:
YEAR | DAILY | MONTHLY | ANNUAL |
2024 | $108.57 | $3,300.53 | $39,606.36 |
2025 | $113.14 | $3,439.46 | $41,273.52 |
